FilterBoxx provided a completely containerized wastewater treatment system with a rated capacity of 300 gpm. The solution consists of a combination of 5 micron filtration and 1 micron filtration optimize TSS removal and cartridge filter life. The solution includes activated carbon beds to manage organics and algae within the pond. The solution also includes two types of single use ion exchange resin to optimally target the removal of the Hexavalent Chromium (Cr6+) and Molybdenum ions. FilterBoxx designed the system with single use resin specifically to eliminate the handling of regeneration chemicals and disposal of spent regeneration solution from site.

The client hired a consultant who determined that a DAF (dissolved air flotation), with a Bardenpho advance nitrification and denitrification process, along with Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) is ideally suited to treat this high strength wastewater effectively and reliably. FilterBoxx was selected to provide its dual train skid based MBR process. FilterBoxx supplied all membranes, frames, process equipment, backwash system, RAS/ WAS pumping systems and central control systems for the MBR plant. The plant was designed to meet a 800 m3/d average demand and 1300 m3/d peak flow.

FilterBoxx supplied a temporary containerized 75 m3/d MBR plant with operations which they later purchased outright. A year later, FilterBoxx was requested to provide a pre-design for a permanent 75 m3/d containerized modular MBR plant. This project was awarded to FilterBoxx, along with a containerized biosolids dewatering and drying system to serve both 75 m3/d systems. The sludge dewatering, sludge drying, and odour control system is an integral step in the overall solids handling and disposal system for the camp site. Solids from the MBR at 1.0 – 2.0% are further dewatered to >25% prior to incineration on site, providing significant savings by eliminating all offsite sludge hauling costs.

FilterBoxx provided peace of mind and savings to this client by renting them a RigCombo™; our site infrastructure utility system. This engineered, skid based solution includes a fixed film biological treatment system that delivers wastewater treatment at the wellsite for up to 30 people (10 m3). The RigCombo™ utility system also provides water disinfection and distribution with 10 m3 of potable water storage, washroom, eye wash station, and emergency shower. (The RigCombo™ includes two 125 kw-60 dB diesel generators to supply power to the unit as well as the rig site while having one redundant generator in standby. The RigCombo™ also includes telescopic yard lighting and several 15 amp to 100 amp power connections along with several outside plug in connectors for work truck engine block heaters. This system is approved by Alberta and B.C for 25 m3/d. The FilterBoxx environmental department facilitates all the permitting with ASRD and Provincial Health authorities to ensure compliance with all regulations.

FilterBoxx designed and supplied a skid based Ultrafiltration and polishing Reverse Osmosis with softener system. Reverse Osmosis is ideal for removing dissolved solids necessary for reuse water quality, but does also require that feed water be pretreated to remove organics and suspended solids that foul the membrane. FilterBoxx included a pressurized Ultrafiltration and prescreen system to remove larger particulate, e.coli and other organic contaminants in the wastewater and make it suitable for feedwater to the RO. A polishing softener system removes the residual hardness in the RO permeate to make the effluent suitable for boiler feedwater. The entire plant is skid based and includes all cleaning systems, tanks, chemical supply system and central control panel/PLC and HMI. To minimize residuals, FilterBoxx designed the 75 gpm plant to operate at a recovery rate of 96% by the UF and 90% by the RO for an overall recovery rate of 90%. This is a savings of over 120,000 gpd of municipal feedwater to the plant (44 Mgal/yr), and the discharge of 108,000 gpd (39.4 Mgal/yr) of wastewater to the local authority.

Each of the six wells exhibits different water quality and flow capacity. While the collected water will be combined into a common source tank, the water quality will still vary constantly as different wells will be used at different times and for different durations. The common groundwater contaminants include Iron, Manganese, Hardness, and elevated TDS. The FilterBoxx design addressed these issues while generating a final effluent that met all process water quality parameters for the plant and the regulatory guidelines for potable water. The 185 gpm Process Water Plant is a containerized RemoteBoxx plant and included chemical oxidation, media filtration, bisulfite addition, antiscalant, Nanofiltration, and final pH adjust. A separate 30 gpm skid based Potable Water Plant provided potable water for use within the office and administration facility.

FilterBoxx reviewed the application demands, permit requirements, job site requirements, and operation personnel and was in an ideal situation to provide a comprehensive solution. With a fleet of several rental plants, we selected two (2) FilterBoxx 75 m3/d mobile membrane biological reactor (MBR) plants along with one (1) 400 bbl tank to provide gravity feed and oil separation for the temporary plant. FilterBoxx managed the required changes to environmental permits, plant mobilization from our yard, installation supervision, start-up, commissioning, and training of all site unionized operations staff. FilterBoxx provided certified engineering personnel for installation supervision, start-up, and commissioning as well as operational support for this project. We worked with FNGP personnel to ensure they had the expertise needed to make it a smooth transition from their existing plant to our RemoteBoxx WWTP’s. We continue to have weekly meetings with our client’s operators as we review weekly reports on the MBR units and offer our expertise to FNGP operators to any changes to their process that maybe needed. We also have monthly meetings with the FNGP to make sure our support continues to meet their project requirements. FilterBoxx feels communication with our clients to be very important to the success in all our projects.
